Overview

The Marine Science minor introduces the student to the study of the world’s oceans: their physical and biological constituents, the influence of oceanic resources on human society and the conservation and future development of those resources.

Students majoring in the Rosenstiel School Undergraduate Program should replace MSC 111 and MSC 112 with an additional elective, and all electives must be above and beyond those used for the major. Fall sections of MSC 111 and MSC 112 are reserved for majors only.  Minors may only enroll in MSC 111 and MSC 112 in Spring semesters.

Most courses within this minor require at least one Science requisite. Students should review all courses and requirements before planning your studies and declaring the minor.

At least 6 of which must be at the 300-level or higher. The following courses CANNOT be used to satisfy the Marine Science Minor requirement: MSC 204MSC 311MSC 313, MSC 314, MSC 339MSC 340, MSC 341, MSC 342, MSC 345, MSC 373, MSC 391, MSC 418, MSC 420, MSC 425.

Only those courses passed with a grade of “C-” or higher may be applied to the major or minor. The Marine Science minor fulfills the requirements of the STEM cognate.
